Each marriage has strengths and vulnerabilities based on the individual issues of each spouse and the history between them. I believe the issues that create the greatest strain on a marriage are often hidden. These usually revolve around the individual needs, wounds and expectations each person brings to the relationship. In addition, each individual and each couple have varying degrees of skill with regards to communication, self understanding and understanding of the other.
My approach to marriage counseling and psychotherapy promotes increased self awareness as well as greater empathy and awareness of one’s partner. In addition, I teach practical behavioral strategies that are geared towards improving communication and promoting increased emotional satisfaction between partners.
It takes courage to examine yourself and your relationship. For this reason marriage counseling and psychotherapy is best suited for couples who are committed to one another and to their marriage.
